Sitting is Basic of Yoga PositionYoga means union. Etymologically, it is connected to the English word, yoke. Yoga means union with God, or, union of the little, ego-self with the divine Self, the infinite Spirit.Most people in the West, and also many in India, confuse yoga with Hatha Yoga, the system of bodily postures. But yoga is primarily a spiritual discipline.

Sitting yoga position is base of yoga position. old the right knee, put the right ankle on to the left thigh and keep the left leg in.

General comments about sitting positions.

  • Sitting- be present. Use props if sitting is difficult
  • Calm and breath
  • Sit tall, back straight, and relax your face

Basic Sitting yoga position:

  • Padmasana- lotus pose. Do not do if not ready, can hurt your knees and ankles.
  • Eraha padmasana- half lotus. Right foot first, heels on thighs
  • Sukasana- cross-legged basic for comfort, delight and joy. (Indian style)
  • Seedasana- right foot to left thigh/ left foot over right calf or vise versa

Benefits Of Yoga: It relaxes a person’s body and mind and prepares him or her for Padmasana and other asanas that are based on Padmasana. It also improves digestion and helps in concentration and relaxation of mind. It’s very suitable for meditation and helps a person until he learns to do Padmasana with ease.
