(Nasdaq:MSFT - news) released on Friday the final test version of its upcoming Windows operating system and said the launch for the highly-anticipated upgrade is running on schedule. Incorporating feedback from earlier test releases, the world’s largest software maker said it distributed Windows Vista Release Candidate 2, or RC2, for its testers to try.

The company made Vista Release Candidate 2 (RC2), or build No. 5744, available to participants in its Customer Preview Program, as well as to TechBeta, TechNet, Technology Adoption Program, and MSDN members.

Google, having fumbled in the hot field of social networking, might be ready to spend big to become the Web’s new video star. The Web search leader is in talks to pay $1.6 billion to buy YouTube, the top site for watching videos online, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. This comes two weeks after Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO - News) reportedly offered $1 billion for social networking site Facebook.
